Staycation over Vacation – A week in the Countryside.

Oh I do love a holiday, a break from the everyday, no chores or routine, no endless to do list. Like most, my idea of a holiday is time away from home to relax, unwind, discover somewhere unknown, create memories as a family

What I don’t enjoy is the planning and preparation that goes into an overseas holiday, it’s exhausting. Booking flights, accommodation, packing, unpacking, adjusting to new time zones all whilst praying the weather plays ball and watching my bank balance take hit after hit! Ever returned from a vacation to find yourself more exhausted than before you went, me too, and isn’t that annoying!

From Lands End to John O’groats you’re never further from a short drive to anywhere in the UK, music to my ears when travelling with two young children. A holiday cottage is the perfect opportunity to bring together family and friends, it’s a great way to get together out-with the norm and spend quality time with loved ones.

This holiday was a break from the everyday, a rest from routine without the stress of travelling afar. Hot drinks after long woodland walks, a well deserved glass of bubbly whilst relaxing in the hot tub. We had movie night and a dinner party with family but the best part, the thing that really made this break ‘a break’ was losing tract of time, letting go, being present with my nearest and dearest. Our staycation in bonnie Scotland could not have been more perfect, it was everything a holiday should be, our own little slice of paradise just around the corner.

A staycation is “A holiday spent in one’s home country rather than abroad, or one spent at home and involving day trips to local attractions,” according to the Oxford dictionary. I think there’s something pretty special about taking a break in your home country. The UK is bursting with stunning coastline, and beautiful countryside, we have some of the best cities in the world and you definitely see places in a different light when on vacay mode, a different mindset can change the entire feel of a place or experience. I feel grounded exploring home turf, there’s so much to discover, so many hidden gems, I love that the place I call home still takes my breath away!

Whatever holiday type you’re after, there’s never been a better time to holiday in the UK. For those who don’t follow along on Instagram, let me tell you, our trip was utter bliss!

A home away from home!

We booked with Cottages.com, home to a number of unique, inspiring collections, curated by cottage experts. Each collection within the family offers something different, so that all holidaymakers can find the perfect break, wherever it may be and whatever the budget. I knew exactly what I was looking for when searching for this break! Luxurious, tranquil and something suited to all the family was what I had in mind, Cot Cottage ticked every box.

Nestled in a secluded countryside location near the Scottish town of Castle Douglas, this luxury self-catering cottage with outdoor hot tub is a unique getaway experience like no other, the views are absolutely stunning. Beautifully presented with contemporary furnishings the cottage boasts 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms which is perfect for larger parties. We had my parents and sisters stay for a few nights, then enjoyed having the place to ourselves, the cottage caters for parties of 2 – 10 making it a great place to share with loved ones, (also great for dividing up the costs)!

This break was exactly what a holiday should be, a chance to restore to refreshen. Switch off from the everyday, spend precious time as a family. If you’re thinking of holidaying with loved ones, take the stress of long distance travel, manic airports, overpriced flights and weeks of preparation out of your vacation by holidaying at home, have a staycation, try it yourself, you’ll thank me later.

Relaxed and revitalised, I’m ready for the new week, lets do this!

Thanks for stopping by,

Emma x
