Real talk, I’m not a glam mum, I’m really not. Every morning whilst my little one has her much needed mid morning nap, I’m faced with the same dilemma over and over! Do I shower, have breakfast, tidy or grab a cuppa and scroll through social media. Most days I’ll opt to go hungry and have a quick shower, (hair washed at weekends only). I then tiptoe around the house tidying as I go. Finding time to get my glam on just isn’t a priority however I do firmly believe beauty makes you feel good on the inside and at a time where feeling YOU is so important, I thought I’d share my best time-saving, beauty secrets to make looking and feeling your best self that little bit easier.
It’s all in the Eyes
My eyes are my most loved facial feature, well they where until sleepless nights stole them from me. If like me, tired eyes is the new you, lash extensions are a game changer. It’s an immediate uplift, opening, brightening and widening the eye. Once my lashes are done I don’t feel the need to wear make up, there’s nothing more refreshing than a makeup free face, especially with a newborn around. For anyone local, the girls at Love Those Lashes are my go to for any brow and lash needs. The girls tailor every application to your own unique eye shape and desired look. The treatment itself is lush, it’s like wakening after a full nights sleep, only way more glam. Tired eyes be gone!
Good Old H2O
Undoubtably the most underrated beauty tip EVER! When the body is dehydrated, it responds by retaining as much water as it can, causing puffiness and under-eye bags. Dehyhdrated skin is also a common cause of dark circles under your eyes. When your body is lacking the proper amount of water, the skin beneath your eyes begins to look dull and your eyes look sunken. In other words, start with the basics, drink more water! Focus on staying hydrated throughout the day, invest in a good water bottle, you’ll be amazed at how much it will encourage you to keep sipping.
Move Over Messy Mum Bun!
Hello chic braids. Braids are a practical trendy alternative to tying your hair back and are a great way to add a little jazz to an otherwise boring ponytail. Keep hair away from face and stop those tiny fingers wrapping around long locks, baby tugs are way more painful than the look. Try braiding at night if you have a busy morning ahead and don’t stress, no previous braiding experience required, a quick YouTube tutorial taught me all I know.
Wash It Off
We all know the importance of washing off our make up and general dirt at the end of the day. Remove makeup and prep skin for bed early on in he evening, do not wait until kids are sleeping, repeat do not wait until the kids are sleeping! I find I’m too tired to function properly by the time both kids are sleeping, I’m also guilty of falling asleep on the room floor only to waken in a zombie like state 4 hour later, the last thing on my mind is cleanse, tone and moisturising. I follow a simple 2 step cleanse, tone routine straight after dinner or at the latest whilst bathing the kids. By the time bedtime rolls round a quick brush of my teeth and I’m done, like literally DONE!
Splash Of Colour
Do add a bright bold lipstick to distract from tired eyes. Don’t be afraid to add colour to lips when everything else is minimal, it immediately brightens the face and draws attention to the lips, disguising those sleepy eyes. Find a colour that works for you, I’m currently loving Bobbi Brown Semi Matte lip colour in Sandwich Pink, it’s hydrating and long lasting. If like me wearing lippy isn’t your usual jam, give this a go, play around with colours, you’ll be amazed at the added sass and immediate uplift, pucker up Mama, you got this.
Now go shine you multi-tasking mama goddess.
