To Baby Moon or Not!

To Baby Moon or Not…. The burning question throughout my pregnancy.

Truth be told, this time round has been exhausting. Growing a baby whilst running after a toddler is hard going. Holding down a job whist growing a business, oh and then there’s the everyday stuff, you know… the cooking, cleaning, running a house! At around 7 months pregnant I had enough! I was never going to tell myself that but I felt it, I woke up a few weeks back and decided I needed a break! I need some me time, I want to unwind and prepare both physically and mentally for our newest arrival, I want a day off! However… I just couldn’t imagine doing so without my little one, without Alfie, the Mum guilt would get me (big time), would that even make the break worth while, absolutely not!

I also didn’t go on a baby moon when pregnant with Alfie but again life was so different back then, so much more relaxed. I could rest when I needed to and jings, looking back , I took that for granted.

With that in mind and my due date creeping in, I was swaying back and forth over a getaway, I suppose I was overthinking the entire situation. So I eventually decided on a luxury break, an overnight which would allow that much needed “me time”. I decided to go for it but I also decided it wasn’t Alfie I needed a break from, so it was final, he was coming with me. My baby moon with my baby!

We stayed at the Trump Turnburry Hotel in Girvan, a 5 star Golf and Spa resort. The hotel is around 1 hour drive from home, not too far but far enough to feel like we where away!  With work and life being so hectic, Darren and I couldn’t fit in time together (that sounds all very formal, our life isn’t as scheduled) this trip was one of those now or never moments so I took my Mum. That happened to be the icing on the cake, don’t Mums step up to the mark when you need them most. It was lovely to spend quality time with her but even more lovely was having someone who’s so hands on with an incredibly active toddler, it really did make the trip a treat, what a relaxing time!

The break was everything a luxury overnight should be. Upon arrival, this place has the wow factor, the interior is breathtaking, the view is to die for and the staff where the most welcoming possible, I felt so looked after from the second I stepped out the car. What really impressed me was the attentiveness to Alfie, there’s nothing more reassuring than feeling like the little ones are welcome in such a lavish place, we felt right at home!

We stayed in a Junior Ocean View Suite which was seriously AMAZING! From the standalone bathtub to the larger than large kingsize bed, (what a dream that was), it was beyond spacious and beautifully decorated, I have to admit, I didn’t want to leave the room!

We ate at The Dual in The Sun Steakhouse which boasts an impressive menu of premium foods from local suppliers and a relaxed feel, it was such a lovely end to our day. We retired to the suite after dinner, partly due to exhaustion but more so because I ate so much delicious food (the portions are generous to say the least), I had to call it a day, (I also couldn’t resist That roll top bubble bath to end the day any longer.. I’m heavily pregnant remember).

I slept like a log that night as did little Alfie! In the morning we woke to the most beautiful blue skies, doesn’t that always make everything feel nicer.

We started the day with a gorgeous breakfast before heading straight to the Spa. With good timing on our side it was so effortless to book treatments to accommodate everyone, Alfie being priority.  I went first whilst my Mum took a walk around the gorgeous grounds and then after the most soothing pregnancy massage I took the little one fo a dip in the pool whilst my mum had a pamper. It was seamless, it was just perfect!

We finished off the afternoon with Afternoon Tea in the Grand Tea Lounge and Bar before heading back to the room for late checkout. It was absolutely everything that I needed and more.

The overnight felt like a weekend away, we squeezed in so much but surprisingly at a much slower, relaxed pace than I had imagined. The staff a Trump Turnburry made that possible. The attention to detail and the care taken to make sure our stay was impeccable was just flawless.

The facilities on site are so impressive to say the least. We spent an hour in the crèche followed by a stroll along the beach just in time for the sun setting before heading back home. I had such a wonderful time, I’m so glad I went for it!

So can you call that a babymoon, I have no idea! What I do know is time away from home, the everyday grind is what I needed. Time spent with my first born, preparing for our newest arrival was exactly what was needed. This stay allowed me to switch off as aswell as create wonderful memories with my Mum and babies.

I’m feeling refreshed and ready to meet our newest bundle of joy. For any Mamas to Be swaying back and forth, go for it! Mum life is a selfless one, squeeze in that last minute “me time” I can assure you, you will not regret it! And…for all you amazing Mamas out there, Mum life is hard going and even harder to switch off from but one thing I’ll take from this trip is a happy Mum means a happy baby. Recharged and raring to take on the newborn haze once more, I’m so glad I took the trip.

I’d love to hear how you baby mooned or did you even! As a couple, on your own, as a family…how did you prepare for your new arrival.

It’s taken a few weeks to put this post together and now it’s almost time to meet our little bundle, sleepless nights commence, I’m ready for you!!

As always, thank you for stopping by and I hope to see you again soon.

All my love.
