What’s In My Hospital Bag

It’s week 38, it’s time, time to get organised for our little one arriving! Jeez it feels so surreal that our family of three will become a little tribe of four in a matter of weeks, or even days, eeek!

I’ve found myself comparing a lot lately, comparing this pregnancy to last pregnancy. Comparing this baby to my first born. Comparing this labour, which obviously is yet to happen, with my first labour, which to tell the truth I vaguely remember! One thing I do remember is not really knowing where to start with packing a hospital bag, if I remember correctly it was grab and go at the last minute!

Nursing Bra

I also have to be honest, I’ve put off packing my bag time and time again over the past few weeks! After the birth of my son I felt traumatised and so disheartened by the whole experience. I genuinely thought I would never be ready for another birth and I’ve experience huge bursts of anxiety over the past few months. This pregnancy has flown by which has also meant I’ve little to no time to overthink and now that the time has come, the bag has to be packed, it just has to be! I told myself last week, stop comparing and start preparing. I’ve based this on a 2 night stay… oh doesn’t that sound like we’re all going on vacay!

The Bag (almost too good to take to hospital)

One thing I’m yet to pack but must mention before I forget, a big brother gift from the baby to Alfie. I’m yet to pick a gift but I think it’s a great idea, it actually makes my heart feel a little funny thinking how he’ll initial react to the new baby, I can’t wait for that!

So here goes.

Pyjamas with Support Band (labour ward never looked so stylish)

For Mama

  • Flip Flop (for in shower)
  • Robe

A Must Have – Lip Balm

  • Lip balm
  • Hair bobble
  • Dry shampoo
  • Shampoo/conditoner/shower gel (miniature or refill travel size containers)
  • Maternity pads

Baby Mori Have Great Newborn Starter Pack Bundles

For Baby

  • Newborn nappies x15 (partner can always bring more if need be)
  • Newborn wipes/ creams
  • Disposable Nappy Bags
  • Baby grows x6
  • Muslin squares
  • Swaddles
  • Baby blanket
  • Soother/dummy
  • Hats (mitts although most baby grows have mitts on sleeves)
  • Going home outfit
(My first born stayed in hospital for 7 nights, I’ve found it difficult to judge what is needed for just a 2 night stay, I’d recommend having another prepared bag at home, partner can bring when needed).
Preparation is key. Drinking my Labour Day Tea and storing all my Labour must haves in this pouch… Gentle self reminder … I got this

Other Bits and Bobs ( but don’t over pack, it only gets in the way)

  • Hospital notes (mines are all online and I doubt I’ll forget my phone)
  • Phone charger
  • Drinking bottle
  • Snacks (mainly for partner, loose change for venting machine)
  • Earphones
  • Prepare playlist / hypnobirthing playlists
Super Soft, Warm & Cosy Baby Blanket

Other Hints and Tips

  • Have your partner pack the bag so they know where everything is. (this absolutely wouldn’t work for me, I’m a control freak and Darren would just totally freak out but I’ve heard so many say it works for them)!
  • Don’t overpack, be realistic, how far are you from hospital, can others bring items if need be!
  • Pack according to events, I have labour and after labour sections in my bag, then a separate bag for the baby.
  • Not an essential however I took my favourite body butter (organic and newborn friendly) to smoother on after my first shower. It was more for home comfort but I actually found it very soothing, almost healing first time round.
  • Photo props… if you really can’t hold off for that insta worthy first baby photo, remember to pack your props. By props I mean, cute swaddle, name plaque, small letter board, that type of thing….Oh and your camera
we are so excited to meet you little baba

So there we have it, have I forgot anything! I found packing my bag a tiny bit nerve wracking but super exciting this time.  I’m sitting here looking over at it and can’t help wonder just when will it be, I soooo can’t wait to meet her.

I’ll keep you posted if anything else springs to mind, until then, I hope all you Mamas to be are resting up and taking care.

All my Love
